Announcements – May 2020

So we are now into May and its time for the latest news and updates.

We may all be locked down but we are still in communication with various parties to make sure that we can jump right back into action as soon as we are able to do so.

Online Events

The Lockdown Series was a sucsess with 42 unique people participating in the ranking events. The non-ranking events did present a good opportunity for those that havent played online before to learrn the ropes but they became less and less popular as those that wanted to participate in events god their setup sorted out and played in the ranking events.

The winner of the Lockdown Series was Bradley Hutton who beat Freddy Still in the final 10 legs to 9.

We are aware that multiple universities are running their own online events and this is a great thing keeping everyone engaged with their club/society, We would love to see some more integration to the UDUK events. Therefore we will be taking a week off and gathering some feedback on how we can better integrate more members of the community into future events. We will then look to see if there is interest in a second season!

SUDL Remains suspended until further notice.

NUDL Finals Day provisionally rescheduled for 23rd August, This is dependant on government advice at that time and if such an event will be allowed.

Rileys University Cup

Big Weekender

We are investigating the possibility of an restrucutred weekend event in August. This is dependant on government advice at that time and if such an event will be allowed.

However the venue in York is ready to support an event if and when it is possible.
More information on this will become available as and when the feasibility of such an event becomes more clear.

New Presidents/Chairpersons of clubs/societies

We know that around this time of year clubs/societies are election new committees to lead them in the upcoming academic year. Please do keep us informed of who is taking over at your university or if you are at a university that is newly forming a club/society then please also reach out and let us know and we will make sure everyone remains informed of what is happening for next academic year!

BUCS Application Delay

As many of you will know, it has been one of our main goals to prepare darts to hopefully transition into the BUCS Programme in the future, Due to the current pandemic this process has been delayed as BUCS have opted to not go through the process of looking at new sports this year, This is primarily because they beleive it not to be in the interest of the stability of university sport currently. Student unions will be looking to cut costs and try maintain what they have but will not be looking to increase their sports commitments.

This means we will have another year of preperation so we may look at making some more changes to bring Darts more in line with how other sports opporate and this will hopefully put us in good stead to transition in the future. It is also our hope that changes will make it easier for clubs/societies to liase with their student unions in similar ways that other sports clubs do and subsequently make life easier for everyone.

Any changes that are coming will be announced in due course.

Welfare

These are stressful and trying timings for everyone, Through the wonders of technology we are still able to talk to each other and some of us even play the sport we love, However if you are stuggling then please remember that most university welfare teams are still running and you can reach out to them to talk. If you want to speak to someone outside of the university networks then there is also the Samaritans who can be reached on 116 123.

Questions?

As usual if you have any questions or are looking for support with any issues involving university darts then please reach out to the UDUK Committe and we will do what we can to help.
