Musa Ali was crowned Cotswolds Classic champion on Saturday after defeating Exeter’s Oscar Silk 6-2. The Oxford student was in fine form all day, topping his group with 5 wins out of 5 before breezing through the first two knockout rounds without squandering a leg. His semi-final against Kyle Mandell proved a tougher test, but little was to stop Ali getting his hands on the trophy and taking home the winner’s cheque. Commendation must also go to the defeated finalist, who came through a tough group B in second position before defeating title contender Adrian Boier in the last 16. Further wins followed in the quarter- and semi-finals, with the latter of which seeing Silk complete the victory with a 50 out on the bullseye. Also taking home silverware was the ladies round robin champion Bronwyn Flook, who came through a competitive field to follow up a steady main competition group stage performance. The highest checkout crown was sealed very early on in the day in the opening match of group C, with a 153 from Adrian Boier. The event marked a successful return to university darts in the South West and follows up a series of singles events held already this academic year. UDUK president Kyle Mandell said: “It was great to bring UDUK events back to the southern teams after a long hiatus. We saw some brilliant performances throughout the day and I’m certain that the South West region will develop nicely from here. It was a pleasure to finally meet many of the presidents, captains and players who I have worked with so far during my tenure.”
