Dan Outwin won Saturday's Canvas Big Weekender singles event, defeating Dundee's Aidan Sutherland 5-1 in the final.

It followed a dominant day’s darts from Outwin, who got the better of Oliver Trevatt, Callum Hodgson, John Lynch, James Buckby, Dan Jones and then Sutherland in the knockout stages to take home the £500 winner’s prize.

After winning the bull-off, he quickly established himself with 2 early 140s, quickly taking the first leg.

Aidan then followed in with 2 140s of his own in leg 2, but a 53 out from Dan established his lead further.

In leg 3, Sutherland must have been wondering what else he could do, as some impressive scoring piled the pressure on Outwin. But a double 10 took him to 3-0 up.

A 180 from Aidan brought him ever closer to his first leg, but a double 2 from Dan would take him just one leg from victory.

Some awry doubling from both was broken by a finish from Sutherland, bringing proceedings to 4-1 Outwin.

But the match would be over soon after, as Outwin capped off victory to take his first Big Weekender singles trophy.

128 players battled it out across the group stages, with 16 groups of 8 competing for 4 knockout places in each group.

Outwin, Luke Davies, Sam Hurley, Thomas Cockman, Janek Hill, Daniel Barclay, Benjamin Housley, Morgan Shillito and Ollie Burgess all progressed with a 7-0 record.

Kyle Mandell and Mark Nassralla were among those to be defeated at the last 64 stage, whilst Sheffield’s Tom Jepson and Trent’s Phil Want were among the tipped contenders to drop out at the last 32.

Leicester’s Janek Hill exited in the last 16, whilst Dan Outwin defeated John Lynch and Bangor’s Ben James got the better of Sam Hurley.

Ollie Burgess, who got the day’s highest checkout with a 151, defeated Morgan Shillito.

In the quarter-finals, Daniel Barclay defeated Cameron Rawson, Aidan Sutherland beat Ollie Burgess, Dan Outwin conquered James Buckby and Dan Jones ousted Ben James.

A tense last 4 clash between Cameron Rawson and Sutherland saw the Scotsman end a spirited campaign from the Notts campaigner, whilst Dan Outwin comfortably ousted Leeds’s Dan Jones 4-1.

Meanwhile, Manchester Met’s Isobel Lee took home the women’s singles tournament, defeating Phoebe Fletcher of York 3-1 in the final.

It means Lee now has 2 UDUK singles trophies in her bag after a win in Leeds at the Yorkshire Classic.

Sunday sees the Teams event wrap up a successful return to the Big Weekender, with 23 teams set to battle it out across the group stages.
