Hallam have won the 2024 Canvas Big Weekender teams event, defeating Trent 4-0 in Sunday’s final.

The team of James Buckby, Morgan Shillito, Ollie Burgess, Dom Tofts and Filip Brom got the better of Phil Want, James Challinor, Mark Nassralla, Sam Bogle, Callum Hodgson and Jacob Timmins after a close day’s play.

A pairing of Morgan Shillito and James Buckby kicked off with the first win, defeating Callum Hodgson and Phil Want with doubles 10 and 20.

Ollie Burgess and Dom Tofts then defeated Mark Nassralla and Jacob Timmins in the second pair’s game, with key double 2s from Burgess the difference.

Hallam’s Shillito then returned to the oche to defeat Trent’s Want, a clinical finish in leg 2 of 59 from a 134 set-up shot putting his team one away.

The final was then wrapped up by one of the players of the weekend, Ollie Burgess, who defeated Sam Bogle 2-0.

A string of near perfect scores from Burgess, a 180 followed by 31 and then a 35 out, closed out the match for Hallam.

Burgess also takes home the overall prize for best checkout - a 151 against Shillito - for which he wins a Unicorn Ross Smith shirt.

The first teams group stages got underway soon after 11am, with 8 groups of either 4 or 3 battling it out to advance.

A last 12 knockout round followed, with Trent 1 and 2 as well as Manchester among the teams to progress.

To decide the last 2, a second group stage of 3 teams each then took place, with both groups going down to the deciding games.

Hallam A edged past Sheffield A in the first group, whilst Trent 2 pipped Manchester in the second group.
